Taiwanese mountain tea, from leaf to cup

Ying-Li (迎利, pronounced “ying-lee”) is a Taiwanese tea specialist with roots going back to 1994. Much of our tea is grown and finished by our Taiwan team, alongside direct sourcing across the island’s mountain regions. Our original tea house is in Taichung, Taiwan.

Taiwan, for scale

About 14,000 sq mi
A little smaller than Maryland and Delaware combined.
About two-thirds mountains
Most of the island is mountainous, which is why so much of its tea grows high up.
12,966 ft
The height of Yushan, Taiwan’s tallest peak. That’s higher than any mountain east of the Rockies.

How we got here

  1. 1994

A tea shop opens in Taichung, the largest city in central Taiwan.

  2. Since then

We built direct relationships in six high-mountain growing regions, and a wider network of more than 20 growing areas across Taiwan.

  3. Today

Yingli Tea Co., Ltd. runs a tasting room in Nantun District and buys more than 5,000 catties of tea a year, roughly 6,600 lb.

  4. 2025

Lishan competition teas now sold at Ying-Li’s Taiwan store received First-Grade (頭等獎) and Three-Star (三星獎) awards in the 2025 Lishan Tea Evaluation Competition (梨山茶品評鑑定比賽).

  5. 2026

yingliteaus.com opens with five teas for customers in the US.

Where we buy

We buy directly in six high-mountain regions. Three of them are in the US collection so far.

In the US collection

  • Alishan 阿里山Chiayi County
  • Lishan 梨山Taichung
  • Dayuling 大禹嶺Central Mountain Range

Also sourced in Taiwan

  • Shanlinxi 杉林溪Nantou County
  • Cuifeng 翠峰Nantou County
  • Fushoushan 福壽山Taichung

Why we started with five

Our shop in Taiwan carries a much bigger range. For the US we chose one black tea, one gift box, and three oolongs from progressively higher mountains, Alishan to Dayuling.

We’d rather do a few teas well and explain them properly. More will follow.

If you’re ever in Taiwan, stop by for a tasting. You don’t need a reservation, and you don’t need to know anything about tea. Taichung is about an hour from Taipei on the high-speed rail.
